The thesis is divided into the theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part deals with the definition of terms such as sex, gender, gender identity and gender role, transgender. A separate chapter then describes transsexuality as the most serious and the life of the individual most affecting form of the transgender. The chapter focuses on the theory of transsexuality, briefly introduces history, discusses the various stages of gender transformation, and finally puts transsexuality into a social context. The empirical part is then focused on mapping the life and experience of transsexual individuals during the transition. Three respondents were chosen for the research, and they were interviewed in depth narrative interviews. The IPA method was chosen as a research method.
